description Located in the heart of Illinois' largest concentration of natural Lakes, Chain O'Lakes State Park is a water-oriented recreation area with outstanding opportunities for boaters, anglers and waterfowlers. The park offers 6,023 acres for campers, picnickers, hikers, bicyclists, horse back riders , and hunters in addition to the fore mention when in season. There are 6 miles of hike/bike trails and 8 miles of horse trails. Park is open everyday except Christmas Day, the hours of operations are: Summer: 6:00 am - 9:00 pm, Winter 8:00 am - Sunset. Summer hours take effect April 1 and terminate last weekend in October. In the fall the park is closed from the beginning of November until mid December for all activities except hunting. Winter hours take effect December 26 thru March 31. You will find a boat rental concession with food service/camp store and horse rental concession. Opened in 1946, the park is managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

importantInformation Camping fees are refundable if cancellation notification is received no later than 3 days prior to arrival. Shelter Reservations are non-refundable unless the area is closed by the Department, in this circumstance the Site Manager will contact you prior to your reservation date to cancel and issue your refund. A responsible adult (18 years of age or older) from the camping party must register for the party and thereby acknowledge compliance with the rules and regulations of the park for the party. Maximum length of stay for a camping party and/or a camping unit is limited to 14 nights in a 30 day period. Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends require 3 night minimum for reserved sites. A campsite can be occupied by only; a "Single Family" consisting of 4 related adults with or without children occupying the same shelter is allowed; or a "Single Group" consisting of 4 unrelated adults with or without children occupying the same shelter is allowed. Firewood may be purchased at concession. Alcohol is prohibited in all camping areas. Entrance gates will be locked from 11:30 pm to 6:00 am. Tire shredder is activated. Campers may leave at any time, but re-entry to park will not be possible. Check in: Campers may check-in after 3 pm - until 10 pm. Check out is 3 pm daily. Visitors must leave the park by 9 pm during summer hours, and sunset, during winter hours. Motor Vehicles: No more than 2 motor vehicles allowed per campsite Park on camp pads only. Quiet pets are welcome if they are on a leash, not to exceed 10' and atteded to at all times. Pets are not allowed in buildings ( cabins, shower house or concession) Swimming is prohibited. Dump Station: All sanitary waste, including that from sink drains, are to be put in sanitary dump stations or other disignated places. There is a $5 fee for all non registered campers. Camping Reservations: Campers may not switch sites without prior approval. Cabins: Pets are not permitted in or at cabin site. No smoking inside cabin. Check out is 1pm. Cabin consists of: two rooms, which accommodates a max. of 6 people, twin bunk beds and double bed with vinyl mattress covers (you must provide all necessary sheets, pillows, linens etc); electric on site, along with ceiling fan and electric heater; table & six chairs; shower & flush toilets at shower building (no restrooms facilities are provided inside cabin); picnic table and cooking/camping grill. Youth Groups: Youth group/ organization camp is a group of 5 or more minors up to 18 years of age who are members of an organization, camping with its adult leaders (scout, church explorers, etc) $2 per person, or a minimum of $20 a day. Tents only are allowed in this area. Picnic Shelter: There are 5 picnic shelters with tables, drinking water, sanitary facilities and grills. Oak Grove, Catfish Cove and Deerpath are located in the main portion of the park. The 2 Oak Point shelters are located on Rt. 173 East of the Fox River. Oak Points' have electric available. Amplified music or loud music is not allowed. No signs may be posted. Alcohol is permited in picnic areas, however, kegs and beer wagons are not permitted. The Department reserves the right to make adjustments in the assignment of sites as necessary. Fees are subject to change Any camper who violates these rules may have his permit terminated without refund by the site manager.
